Weibliches Idol der Base-Ring Ware

1450 - 1200 v. Chr.

Figurine of a standing nude female holding an infant. Handmade, hollow. Surface stroked with an instrument. Long hooked nose, no indication of mouth, large flat pellets for ears with an impressed circle to indicate eyeballs. Large flat ears, each pierced twice to hold earrings, probably of another material. Long cylindrical neck. The arms are rather short and slender, with grooved fingers. They are both bent to the chest to hold an infant that is very small; its pointed face lies near the left breast. Both of the infant’s arms are stretched on the figure’s chest; its fingers are indicated with grooves. The figure’s breasts are small and painted. Exaggeratedly broad hips. The legs are close to one another and become very slender towards the feet, which are not specifically indicated. Grooves around the mother’s neck. Grooved lines outline the large pubic triangle, which is filled with horizontal rows of oblique parallel grooves. The back is plain.
