Artemis (?)
4. Jh. v. Chr.
The upper half of a female figure. Mold-made, hollow. Oblong face, made from an old mold. Triangular forehead. Curly hair falls in two long grooved locks on each shoulder. She has earrings with elongated pendants. On her head she wears a high polos, open at the top, decorated with three winged griffins facing frontally and four multi-petalled rosettes arranged symmetrically among the griffins. There is a necklace around the neck, with globular beads and leaf-shaped pendants. The folds of the drapery are carefully and realistically shown, allowing the breasts to appear. There is a stag in her left arm, of which only the head and the forepart of the body survive, in relief. Its head lies immediately next to the left breast, with the neck upwards and the forelegs bent. The back side is plain, with a large vent-hole. No traces of painted decoration.
