KHM Stories Our interactive museum app

Interested in getting to know the Kunsthistorisches Museum from a new perspective? With the KHM Stories app, adults, young people and children can rediscover the diverse collections.

Old art told in a new way

Exciting stories across the museum

KHM Stories shows hidden things, such as backsides or X-ray images, allows a look behind the scenes of the museum, clarifies connections between different eras and sharpens the eye for detail. In addition, the tours draw parallels with today's phenomena and thus encourage reflection on current social conditions in an entertaining way.

Themes such as ideals of beauty, magic, diversity and sustainability form the common thread that runs through the millennia: Audio, text and video contributions accompany you from work to work, while interactive elements invite you to become active yourself.

On a journey of discovery in the museum with the whole family

In addition to tours for adults and young people, KHM Stories also offers tours specially developed for children aged eight and over, which provide a playful approach to art. Young visitors can discover the museum on their own and, for example, go on a monster hunt or slip into the role of superheroes themselves.

In Begleitung der Eule Oskar und der Göttin Athene kannst du verschiedenen Mitarbeiter*innen des Museums über die Schulter schauen. Deine Mithilfe ist gefragt, wenn es darum geht, verborgene Geheimnisse zu erforschen oder beschädigte Kunstwerke wieder in Ordnung zu bringen. Am Ende entscheidest du selbst, welchen Backstage-Bereich du noch erkunden möchtest!

Begib dich mit der Monsterforscherin Minerva auf Forschungsreise: Gruselige Drachen, scheue Einhörner, alte Krokodilmumien haben sich in unseren Kunstwerken versteckt und warten darauf, von dir entdeckt zu werden. Auch Monster Luzifer ist mit von der Partie und treibt im Museum allerlei Unfug!

Answers to frequently asked questions about using our museum app

Connect either to your Wi-Fi at home or to the free Wi-Fi in the museum.

For iPhone: Download the app from the App Store.
For Android: Download the app from the Google Play Store.

Then open the app and follow the instructions on the screen. Select the desired tour and tap on the “Download tour” button to download it.

For some tours (e.g. “House of Habsburg Tour”), audio guide elements are provided which must be activated by purchasing the corresponding ticket.

Redeem a ticket purchased on site
Scan the ticket directly in the app to unlock the audio guide elements.

Redeem a ticket purchased online
Click on “Save in the KHM app” in the ticket email to simply save the ticket in the app.

Downloaded tours can also be used without an Internet connection.

Headphones can be purchased in the shop. Unfortunately it is not possible to borrow them.
