Zweifarbige Ornamentik

1625 - 1450 v. Chr.

The wheel-made jar has a double-conic, depressed, bulging body with a low base-ring. The broad, high, conic-concave neck with a spreading, wide mouth is carinated by a groove. A broad, vertical loop handle extends from the shoulder to the lip. Painted decoration in red and dark brown: between wide horizontal stripes on the neck are three ornamental fields with lattice butterfly motifs, small, diagonally divided rectangles and diagonally crossed ladder-pattern bands. On the shoulder between simple horizontal lines are three vertical groups of strokes. On the outside of the handle are three wide vertical stripes. Most of the Bronze-Age vessels in Cyprus are handmade. Not until the beginning of the Late Bronze Age, in the 16th century B. C. do new types of pottery emerge, which were produced in Cyprus on a potter’s wheel.
