Ritzdekor

2000 - 1800 v. Chr.

During the Cypriote Bronze Age, vessels in animal form are widespread in varied types of pottery. The round vessel, cylindrical at the lower part and curved towards the top, its bottom side closed with a carinated, slightly convex base, is in the shape of a horn. The curved tip of the horn is formed into a short tubular spout; on the back side there are two string-holes below the spout rim. The incised decoration on wall and spout consists of an irregular checkered pattern, formed by four rows of three horizontal groups of lines, each group with eleven short, parallel lines and a hatched diamond. Around the bulging bottom is a circumambient herringbone pattern with a simple horizontal line in the middle.
