Jüngling mit Blattkranz

1. Viertel 5. Jh. v. Chr.

This head of a young man wearing a wreath evinces the typical features of the Cypriot-archaic style of the first half of the fifth century B. C. The oval face has a low brow, a pointed nose and a protruding chin. The eyes are almond-shaped, the smiling mouth with its corners strongly puckered is closed. Five rows of small, schematic curls frame the face, with a band of stylized laurel leaves above it. The short hair on the top of the head is crudely indicated by incised lines. Traces of the original paint have been preserved on the lips.
