Stele of the sealer Seneb

late 12th/13th Dynasty, ca. 1800-1665 BC

This rectangular family stele with cavetto cornice and torus molding belongs to the sealer Seneb. The pair of wedjat eyes, combining human eyes with those of a falcon, functions as a protective device. Both figures of jackals atop shrines are deities – at the right, Anubis, god of the dead, and to the left, Wepwawet, god of the necropolis.
