Stele of Chenti-em-hat Meret

ca. 17th Dynasty, 1600-1569 BC

The stele is undecorated except for protective wedjat-eyes in the gable. The 16-line text is a prayer for offerings in Chenti-em-hat Meret’s favor. More than thirty members of his family are also named. This is typical for steles that were erected not at a tomb but at Abydos, the burial place of Osiris, so that the owner’s family benefited along with him.
