Stele of the sealer Seneb

late 12th/13th Dynasty, ca. 1800-1665 BC

From the inscription it can be deduced that the family of Seneb comes from Athribis in the Nile delta even though they set up this stele in Abydos, an important pilgrimage center of the funerary god Osiris during the Middle Kingdom. In the rounded gable at the top of the stele Osiris himself is shown with the local deity of Abydos Wepwawet.
