Stele of Pai-es-bes

beginning of the 26th Dynasty, 664–620 BC

The three individuals bringing offerings to the falcon-headed god Re-Harakhty are the priest Pai-es-bes, his father Nekhet-wesir, and his wife Shep-en-mehit. The text in three columns below is a prayer addressed to the morning sun. The association of the stele with the cult of Re is probably related to the office of priest that Pai-es-bes held in the solar god’s temple.
