“Papyrus Fontana” – Book of the Dead for Chaa-es-en-aset

ca. 3rd century BC

The incomplete and damaged papyrus, written in hieratic script, is illustrated with various chapters of the Book of the Dead. Among the themes are the worship of the rising sun and the offering of incense and water for the benefit of Chaa-es-en-aset and her mother. An important chapter is devoted to the judgement of the deceased with a scene of weighing the heart in the judgment hall of Osiris.
