The stele is not of the standard round-topped type. Its torus molding and cavetto cornice are imitations in stone of features that were typical for buildings made of brick, wood, and matting in early dynastic times. The torus molding copies a bundle of reeds or posts that protected a corner while the cavetto cornice is an abstracted depiction of palm branches.
