Stele of Nes-ka-shuti

26th Dynasty, ca. 630 BC

The popularity of the pilgrimage to Abydos was undiminished in the Late Period. This stele was probably set up for Nes-ka-shuti in a chapel there. He and the many members of his family commemorated on the stele hoped to participate magically in the Osiris “mysteries,” just as had persons named and depicted on steles at Abydos since the Middle Kingdom.
