Reiter auf Pferd

um 600 v. Chr.

Figurine of a horse and rider. Handmade. The rider is upright, with short legs, both arms stretched forward (now missing) to touch the horse’s mane, the hands still preserved on the animal’s neck. Large nose, pointed beard (tip missing). He wears a high conical helmet. On his back, nearer to the right shoulder, he carries a round shield with a central pointed spike. It is supported by a strap passing diagonally across the chest. The horse has a short body flattened below, peg-shaped long legs, a high upright neck with a flat front, a small head, a flat forelock curved forward above the forehead, small ears (broken), the tail turns towards the right hind leg. There are indications that the horse was wearing a collar (for a bell?) on the upper part of the neck and a breastplate. Both horse and rider are richly decorated with black and red paint. The rider has large eyes and eyebrows in black. Red nose, helmet and shield. Transversal bands of black and red bands on arms. The horse’s facial details are rendered in black, horizontal and vertical bands of black and red paint on neck (sides and front) and forelock, ladder pattern in two colors on forelegs, vertical bands on hind legs, black on tail.
