Mann mit Helm

6. Jh. v. Chr.

This head of a young, beardless warrior originally belonged to a votive figurine. It has been preserved down to the top of the shoulders. The dominant features of the oval face are the low brow, the protruding, almond-shaped eyes, the broad nose and the jutting chin. The ears have been fashioned with great care. Traces of red paint are visible on the closed, faintly smiling lips. On his head the young man wears a conical helmet with the ear flaps raised. The reverse has been left flat. The present limestone head complies with a type which was also widely used for terracotta figures.
