Mann mit Blattkranz

2. Viertel 5. Jh. v. Chr

This head of a young man wearing a wreath originally belonged to a votive statue. The coarseness of the forms and details are characteristic of this later style. The elongated, oval face has a low brow, a long, pointed nose and a slightly jutting, short chin. The protruding eyes are almond-shaped, the eyebrows contoured. Four rows of small, schematic curls frame the face, with a band of stylized leaves above it. The short hair on the top of the head is crudely indicated by incised lines. Traces of the original red paint have been preserved on the lips, in the nostrils and on the wreath.
