Indian boxes can still be  seen  in  many  versions  and different sizes in European collections of the16th and 17th centuries. The surface of the teak wood box is completely covered with mother of pearl, which lends its intensive glow and gloss to the object. Such small boxes were used for keeping jewels and turbans.
