Case for recorders
16th century | anonym
Like almost all wind instruments of the Renaissance, recorders were made in families or consorts of instruments of different sizes. For practical reasons and for the protection of the instruments, an entire consort was kept in a single case. The case from the Este collection in Castle Catajo is designed for eight instruments, of which only six have survived. (rh)
