Torso einer weiblichen Gewandstatue

2. Jh. n. Chr., nach hellenistischem Original

This larger than life-sized striding female figure wears a heavy belted chiton under a delicate cloak (himation) pouched at the hip and draped over her left arm. Her (now lost) arms, left hand and feet were separately worked and then inserted into the statue. The decorative handling and the delicate modelling of the folds of the chiton visible through the cloak all suggest this is a Hellenistic work. However, we do not know if it was conceived as a portrait or an ideal figure.
