Recorder (basset)

This recorder was made of stained hardwood and elaborately decorated with ivory and bog oak intarsia. We know of no other wind instrument that was decorated in a similar way. Due to the maker’s mark, the recorder is attributed to the workshop of Rauch von Schrattenbach. It is presumably the only preserved instrument of the Vienna Court Music Chapel from the 16th century. The key is not original. (bd)
