Cabinets have many compartments and drawers inside and were used to store valuable goods and pieces of art. The front of this unique specimen which is richly decorated with marquetry and architectonical details conceals 117 artfully nested drawers. When one considers the exceptionally good condition of this piece of furniture, it is reasonable to suspect that these were most likely never used to store art objects. This cabinet with four equal display fronts and a tapered top section with a palatialtype midsection conforms to the traditional style of art cabinets made in Augsburg in the 17th century.
