Kabinettschrank mit Pietra dura-Einlagen

um 1675 und 19. Jahrhundert (Korpus)

The front surfaces of the drawers of this small cabinet closet are embellished with pietre-dure panels (inlays with semi-precious stones). In the centre, they depict a vase of fl owers. Furthermore, you can see two pairs of birds and two branches with blossoms on each side. Such small sized panels with bird motifs became very popular in the 17th century and were often used to embellish stately furniture. A particularly beautiful example of this type of work is Lorenzo de’ Medici’s ebony cabinet (Florence, Palazzo Vecchio). Its pietre-dure panels were produced in the grand-ducal workshop at Florence. Lorenzo de’ Medici’s ebony cabinet most likely inspired the production of this cabinet.
