Breaking screws were used to break open and, if necessary, destroy iron grids or metal structures. By turning a spike inserted into the centre part, the two jaws pulled the bars together. This example comes from the collection of Ferdinand II. It is not known whether this is a real tool or a Kunstkammer object.
