Coffin of Meri-ib

6th Dynasty, ca. 2374 – 2191 BC

This is the inner coffin from a set of two; the outer coffin that contained it was made of sycamore wood. An offering formula, along with the name and titles of the owner, was inscribed on the outside; inside there are offering lists. The pair of wedjat-eyes on one of the long sides enabled the deceased to gaze out into the world of the iving.
