Meri-mes was a high-ranking dignitary during the reign of Amenhotep III. Viceroy of Kush was his most important office. As military administrator of Nubia he was responsible for putting down a rebellion there. The king presented him with the ‘Gold of Honor’ – necklaces and bracelets of gold – in recognition of his service to the crown. The rolls of fat on his bared stomach attest to his affluence.
