Architrave fragment of Cheteti

6th Dynasty, or 1st Intermediate Period, ca. 2374-2040 BC

The fragment is the left end of an architrave that was made in segments – thin slabs decorated and inscribed before they were mounted in the tomb. The rounding of the left side may represent a secondary reworking of the piece. In front of the couple their sons are depicted. The style of all the figures is typical for the late Old Kingdom.
