Stele of the overseer of scribes Ni-hebsed-pepi

6th Dynasty, or 1st Intermediate Period, ca. 2374-2040 BC;

The stele’s design is reminiscent of an Old Kingdom architrave. The figures of the tomb owner and his wife are carved in the style typical for the end of the Old Kingdom. Other examples of the unusual rendering of the man’s leg muscles come from Naqada in Upper Egypt, which suggests that this stele also comes from there.
