Apis stele of Beh-iset

ca. 7th century BC

Below a winged sun disk the god Apis is depicted as a bull, recumbent upon a pedestal. The dedicator of the stele kneels reverently before him. The meaning of the hoe at the nape of his neck is unclear. Many of his relatives are named in the prayerful appeal of the stele’s texts.
