Ionisches Kapitell

2. Hälfte 4. Jh. v. Chr.

Only a few components of the altar of Artemis, at which the rites for the Ephesian Artemis were performed, have been preserved. Ionic capitals and architraves found near the large theatre could be assigned to that altar. On display here are two Ionic capitals (inv. nos. I 1641 and I 1642) and a corner architrave (left, inv. no. I 1698 d); the corner capital on the left and the second architrave on the right are casts of originals found in Ephesos.
