Susanna and the Elders

In the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament it is told how Susanna, while bathing in her own garden, receives indecent propositions from two noblemen who have secretly crept in. When she rejects them, they revenge themselves by slandering her in front of her husband. Only the ruling decision at her trial by the young prophet Daniel, whose interrogation of the two men entangles them in contradictory statements, saves Susanna from the death sentence for her supposed adultery. Belongs to the so-called “Buckingham Series”. Counterpiece (?) to “Christ and the Adulteress” (Inv.-Nr. GG 15).
