Christ and the Adulteress

The scribes had brought an adulteress to Jesus and asked him what was to be done with her in view of the Law of Moses which laid down that such women were to be stoned. After some hesitation, Jesus answers that he who is without fault may cast the first stone. He also cannot condemn her, she may leave and no longer commit sin. Part of the so-called Buckingham Series. Possibly the New Testament companion picture to “Susanna and the Elders” (Inv.-Nr. GG 3676).
