Esther before Ahasuerus

The Book of Esther in the Old Testament tells of King Ahasuerus who, without knowing that his wife Esther is Jewish, follows the advice of his minion Haman and orders the death of all the Jews in his kingdom. Esther appears before the king and pleads for her people. She threatens to faint and is supported by two ladies-in-waiting. Belongs to the so-called “Buckingham Series”. Possibly the companion picture to “Christ and the Captain of Capharnaum” (Inv.-Nr. GG 3675).
