Votivstatuette einer Frau

um 550 v. Chr.

The woman is standing frontally with her legs together on a rectangular plinth. She is clad in a long, smooth undergarment with a clearly incised seam at the wrist, and over that a delicate, painted cloak with long wide sleeves. Traces of paint have survived, mainly on and around the breasts, on the neck and on the lower right arm where the painted opening of the sleeve is still clearly visible, while the border of the cloth on the left wrist is incised in the stone. Her right arm is bent, her clenched hand holding a calyx (lotus or pomegranate blossom) against her chest. Her left hand, hanging at her side, is clutching the stem of a lotus blossom pointing downwards.
