Ganzer, blanker Knabenharnisch, Kinderrüstung

zw. 1563 und 1565

The suit of boy’s armour belonged to the sons of Archduke Ferdinand II, Andreas (1558– 1600) and Karl (1560—1618), and could be used for tournaments on horseback or on foot. Because of the unsuitable social rank of their mother Philippine Welser (1527—1580) the two boys were suspended from Habsburgian succession. The display of their armours in a series of important personalities intends to compensate for their lack of noble birth
