False door of Chenit

6th Dynasty, ca. 2374–2191 BC

The false door in a tomb represented the symbolic interface between this world and the next. The tomb owner is shown once seated before a table with offerings and again at the bottom of both door jambs. The outer jambs carry depictions of the seven sacred oils which were used in the process of embalming the corpse.
