Vorhängeschloss, Schloss, Gerät, Werkzeug

16. Jahrhundert

The padlock is one of a whole series of comparable wrought-iron locks in the Ambras Castle collection. The lock can be opened by means of two pins of different lengths, which are inserted into the holes on the underside and narrow side. They most probably date from the time of Archduke Ferdinand II and were kept in the seventh showcase of the Ambras Kunstkammer. It is not clear whether these are real tools or more representative pieces from the Kunstkammer.
