Trinkgefäß in Form eines Fäßchens, Gefäß; Scherzglas, Scherzgefäß, Fässchen, Glas

vor 1567

Like the little glass ship, this barrel made of glass by Murano glass workshops was delivered to Archduke Ferdinand II around 1567. It was used as a joke article to test the male guests‘ ability to hold their drinks in the „Bacchusgrotte“, a little cave in the park of Ambras. This ceremony was called "Ambras Willkomm". The little barrel filled with wine had to be emptied in one go. The capacity is around 0,5 litre.
