Handstein, Grotte, Kreuzigungsgruppe
3. Viertel 16. Jahrhundert
„Handstones“ were made of various ore samples, sized to fit in one hand. They were decorated with small figures. As presents and showpieces they were typical objects of chambers of art and wonders. The inside of this little ebony box looks like a handstone- grotto. Golgotha-scenes with crosses and figures made of ivory were a popular motif to decorate handstones.
