Aufsatz mit Kompass, Handstein, Aufsatz
nach 1575
Handstones“ were made of various ore samples, sized to fit in one hand. They were decorated with small figures. As presents and showpieces they were typical objects of chambers of art and wonders. This top made of wood and ivory imitates a handstone combined with a scientific instrument. The top of the mountain can be removed, inside there is a compass. In the base there is a drawer with three compartments. This compass is already mentioned in the inventory of Archduke Ferdinand II in 1596
