The Park of a Castle

around 1632/35 | Peter Paul Rubens

Rubens created most of his landscape paintings in the last decade of his life. Here he has set an elegant scene of amorous amusement into a delicately painted park landscape: a casual group of figures entertaining one another. We find here the cheerful mood and light coloration that anticipates the conversation à la mode of the French Rococo period.
