Shell Bowl

Under Leopold I, the Prague workshop of the Miseroni lost significance as purveyor of precious stone vessels to the court. A group of Italian stone carvers active in Vienna took its place. These vessels can be attributed to the most significant among them, Giovanni Battista della Rovere. Their amorphous shapes stand in marked contrast to the blocky Prague vessels, and would decidedly shape Viennese hardstone carving in this period.
