The roman emperor Vespasianus is shown in profil. The relief made of white marble, the background is painted black. In the 16th century numerous series of portrait of emperors were made in Italy, always including the first 12 Roman emperors. The most famous series created the painter Titian for the Mantuan Court. A copy of this serie was part of the Ambras collection of Archuke Ferdinand II and is still on display in the Ambras collection today.
