Portrait of a Man with Book

The stranger has paused from reading and now seems to indulge in his own thoughts. With his eyes cast down and head propped up in the classic thinker‘s pose, he shows all the features of the introverted brooder. His round, fleshy face, the full, sensual mouth and rich skin colour effectively enhanced by virtuosic black painting all create an ironic contrast to his melancholic disposition.
