Löffel aus Perlmutt, Perlmuttarbeit, Tafelgerät

16. Jahrhundert, vor 1596

The two spoons are made of mother of pearl, horn and ivory. Mother of pearl objects were very popular amongst European princes. These ones were added to the collection of Archduke Ferdinand II as exotic show pieces. If they had actually been used the sensitive mother of pearl would have lost its gloss very quickly.
