Bust from a statue of Amenemhet III

12th Dynasty, reign of Amenemhet III, ca. 1843-1797 BC;

The subject of this uninscribed bust can be identified as King Amenemhet III, thanks to features of its style. The heavy lower eye lids, the markedly protruding cheek bones, and large ears are characteristic of his likenesses. The reign of Amenemhet III is associated with economic growth and especially with land reclamation in the Faiyum Oasis.
