Statue, Heilige Maria, Muttergottes

2. Hälfte 15. Jahrhundert | Niclas Gerhaert van Leyden

St. Mary is kneeling on a prie-dieu and reading a book, as described in the apocryphe pseudo gospel of Matthew. The Archangel Gabriel rises his right hand to greet Mary. Facial features and posture of both statues are chiselled delicately. The statues have been ascribed to the workshop of an unknown artist who also made the column statues in the Burgkapelle in Vienna.
