Standing woman

beginning of the 6th Dynasty, ca. 2360 BC

The identity of the woman in this uninscribed statue, like its provenance, is not known. But comparative material suggests that it comes from Giza. The subject wears a woman’s typical long dress with shoulder straps; traces of her painted collar-like necklace are scarcely discernible today. Across the forehead her natural hair is visible under the striated wig she wears.
