Relief fragment with the goddess Nut

305–31 BC

To the left and right there are remains of the frieze to which the relief once belonged. The sky goddess Nut presents water and food to a ba-bird, one manifestation of the soul. This type of scene is often depicted on the walls of tombs with a tree goddess rather than Nut. The signs above the bird’s back are symbols of the continuance of life that were associated with Osiris.
