Seated statue of the goddess Sakhmet

18th Dynasty, reign of Amenhotep III, 1410–1372 BC

Amenhotep III erected hundreds of statues of the leonine goddess Sakhmet in the precinct of Mut at Karnak and in his own memorial temple. Shoshenq I (931–910 BC) replaced Amenhotep III’s cartouche here with his own. “Giovanni B. Belzoni,” the name of the man who apparently found ÄS 77 and ÄS 78 in the Mut Temple, is inscribed on both statues.
