Beeing an ambitious glass-blower himself, Archduke Ferdinand II founded the glassworks in Innsbruck based on the model of Venice. The chain made of glass was made by an artist who came from Venice in 1578. In the original Ambras collection it was  presented on a taffeta cushion in the chamber of arts and curiosities.
